What about looking on eBay for a dress?
A friend of mine hired her dress about 8 years ago at the cost of £250!! you could get a really lovely dress brand new for that price!
Have a look on eBay, or anywhere local to you who might be selling samples.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -

I didn't mean buying from abroad, just from sellers who are closing up shop, or women show have a dress but then changed their mind etc...
Have you checked your local bridal shops to see if they have any samples for sale or a sale on?
I understand though about trying on before you buy

Oh I knew what you meant hun I just said tha cos there are so many on ebay that are from across seas, although I will actually have a look. I might see one that catches my eye. However any websites that anyone knows of for wedding dress hire would be gratefully received. I live in staffordshire, I've googled and found a couple but not loads. I ca go a bit further afield as long as thehire company allows thanks again xxI didn't mean buying from abroad, just from sellers who are closing up shop, or women show have a dress but then changed their mind etc...

I tend to agree or to go to as many local bridal shops as you can and look at samples or sales
My local one had dresses for £99.

I found a great place to hire a dress from if anyone from round by staffordshire is interested http://www.vonleebridalhire.com/home.html they have some beautiful designer dresses for hire! And they tell me the website shows only a fraction of the stock they have for hire in store. Definitely worth a look, i'm going to try on a few in January when i've lost some more pounds in weight lol, the only downside is i think you need to be a standard size as they don't allow alterations, fortunately i fall into this catagory.
Will let people know how i get on as and when i visit the store. xx 0 -
i never looked into hiring, but have heard it can work out expensive
try a few local bridal shops, the one I got my dress from had a whole wall of sale dresses from £100 to about £300
I looked through them all but didnt find any I liked on, so looked at the full price ones, found one I loved and asked for a discount on it....they said yes so I got it for under £300
Its got to be worth going and having a look and asking for a bit of money off

Take a look on the internet. My friend recently got married and chose the dress she wanted at a bridal shop in this country - £900. She found the same dress at a bridal studio in New York for £235 inclusive of shipping. Many dresses sold here are actually imported from the USA (sewn-in size labels are in both US and UK sizes).
So, I'd suggest you find the dress you like, try it on, note the size(s), then search the net. Ordering is easy, and my friend had no problems at all.
Just one word of warning, many overseas sites sell COPIES of designer dresses. The store she bought from in New York is 100% OK. She even bought the flower girl dresses from the USA - SO much cheaper than here.
Hope this helps.0 -
