Renewing tenancy agreement - can we negotiate rent?

Hi everyone
Our tenancy agreement is up for renewal very soon and we have been asked by the estate agent if we are going to continue renting our current property. We love where we live but the rent is quite expensive. We could consider moving to somewhere with lower rent but we only moved in a year ago and this would be quite an upheaval. Is it standard practice to try and negotiate rent with the estate agent at renewal time? We are good tenants and have paid our rent on time without fail every month.
Any suggestions would be very welcome, thank you for reading

of course you can try to negotiate. the worst that can happen is they say no. be realistic though, look at what similar properties are advertised for, there's no point offering well below market rate - they aren't going to accept less money than it's 'worth' just on the grounds that you pay your rent on time.0 -
