Should also add... you obviously know her better than me, but is she likely to want to carry an extra camera around to parties... might you be better off getting her (or contributing to) a new mobile phone with decent flash and lens (if such a phone exists).
The sony phones generally have good cameras on them. The new nokia N97 I think has a good camera, actually most expensive new phones have relatively good cameras on them (for a phone). I'm in the iphone camp so I still need to bring a small camera everywhere with me until apple pull their finger out and start catching up on the camera front0 -
she does take advice from her Dad sometimes, her Mum always, but follows it Hmmmm :rotfl:
;)
thanks everyone for the advice I'll get researching.0 -

I have looked at this option with her as her mobile contract finishes next March, but not found a good enough one yet.
She has a samsung mobile (photo range) and it's not bad, just slow so not great for the 'instant' photos.
She always has a bag with her, so an extra camera isn't a bother - she takes my camera everywhere at the moment anyway.0 -
I was shopping around recently and after reading a lot of reviews I discovered the search by camera option of Flickr, http://www.flickr.com/cameras/
It was useful for me to see how the camera might perform in certain situations. Best of luck.0 -
Canon IXUS 100IS is a nice compact design, metal body, easy to use (as all Canon IXUS models are) and packs HD video into it as a nice bonus. Should come into your budget if you shop around."Who throws a shoe, honestly?"
