Cheapest way to get from North West to London via train? leaving and returning 03/10

Ideally, I'd like to depart from Liverpool/Chester, but wouldn't rule out driving to the likes of Manchester, Crewe, Wrexham etc.

So far I've found that going via chester and splitting at Birmingham will cost just under £40.

Any suggestions appreciated.

  • If you don't mind driving to Wrexham then you can do Wrexham General to London Marlybone for £25 return

    You need to book and travel on Wrexham & Shropshire trains they however, take longer to get to London and only have 4 trains a day each way.

    Well from Lime Street without splitting I can get £44.

    You could do with telling us what times you are needing to travel.
  • Just found a better solution;
    Liverpool LS to London Euston change at Crewe or Stafford 3rd Oct Super Off Peak Return £22 valid on London Midland trains only

    This is a walk on fare so you can buy it on the day of travel at the station

    There will be an equivalent fare from Crewe - maybe an easier drive/parking?

    This fare can't be bought online then?
    Where did you find out about this fare?

    The ticket can be bought online.

    Any of the online ticket sellers will sell it, but it can also be bought at a station on the day.
    I tend to find the NXEC website easy to use. Click on 'show slower routes' or something similar.
