Help please with my new but rubbish pc?

Hello

I really need some help with my computer. This is the 3rd one I have had in five years and I cannot afford to buy another one.

This PC is about 3 months old and when I got it, it was very fast. Anyway I have noticed that its has been getting slower to boot up and slower to open web pages and has started to crash.

The past 2 days have been very bad, it will kick me out of the internet and when I am in the webpage will take ages to load and then I cant type. It has taken me 15 mins to type this.

I dont no much about pc's, is there any way I can find out what is wrong

I regularlt run spybot, cc cleaner and malaware and they say everything is fine!

I am also using norton which again say i have no virusus, i am worried as my last 2 pc's had trojans which wiped the hard disc

The Guys and Gals here will need a bit more info about your PC. Which Version of Windows, Amount of RAM, what other programs you have etc etc.

Is anyone using it visiting dodgy sites? does everyone using it know never to click yes on anything -> pop-ups, toolbars, or anything else trying to install itself on your computer?

when you add hardware do you install just the minimum driver set and tool to use it or all the unnecessary 'bloatware' the vendor tries to push onto you to clog up your PC

eg for your internet connection you should need to install precisely zero bits of extra software and just configure the settings in windows


...oh and if you are happy to turn off all the extra bumph vista has to try and make it look 'pretty' you'll find you run alot faster too (sidebar, aero desktop etc etc)

First of all you shouldn't need to buy another PC. If it's only 3 months old it will still be under warranty for any hardware issues - assuming you bought it new. The problem is most likely software though, the more stuff you install, the slower things get.
Norton is renown for slowing things down, but Dell's normally come with McAfee preinstalled. Make sure you uninstalled McAfee, as two AV programs can be really bad news - especially if one is Norton. Malwarebytes is definately worth a try to see if there is anything lurking.

If browsing is slow in IE, try using Firefox or Opera to see if it makes a difference.

The other things you could try, getting more severe are System Restore to when it was working ok, and ultimately Dell restore to the factory state. This is a bit drastic for now, but remember you need to back up anything you want to keep to something external before doing it (not a bad idea anyway).

Just out of interest have you done the simple thing? Like clear cookies and temporary internet files recently?

Also have you defragged?
