    I applied to Santander, Nationwide, Halifax and Sainburys, all of which said no. I just can't understand why i'm being turned down.

    If you were declined for one HBOS card you shouldn't have went for the other - best to check the core brand before applying as lots of cards are affiliated i.e. M&S/HSBC - MBNA/Virgin Halifax/Sainsburys etc etc.....

    Just let your credit sit for a little while then apply in a month or two, right now it probably suggests you're too eager to get credit (that's the impression a lender 'may' have)... Good Luck :D
