  • As you're on DLA before the age of 65 you can stay on it when you reach this age but if you have care needs later on, you'll need to apply for Attendance Allowance.

Have you run your figures through https://www.entitledto.co.uk as this is a good starting point to see if you're eligible for anything.

In your circumstances, you should be able to get an advisor to call on you at home. See if your council has Welfare Officers. If not, try DIAL.

This is not correct. My husband was on HRM for many years and earlier this year when his health deteriated we filled out an AA form for help with care. They wrote back to us saying that once you begin with DLA you stay on it even when you are over 65.Luckily they were happy to use the AA form for his claim.
if i had known then what i know now

There was a long thread recently on the Benefits Board where advisers said that this wasn't the case but there was a lot of differing views and it's obviously a grey area.
  • As long as your dla award continues past sixty five ie award still valid then you will continue to receive it. If your award stops and you have to put in for a new claim then attendance allowance would be awarded in place of dla.
