Are you in danger of becoming a debt free bore?

Yesterday someone asked if they could borrow a pound off me and I gave them a lecture on living within their means:rolleyes:

I advised they make out a shopping budget and try and get some savings behind them. I said they had to prepare for when they are a pensioner as we don't know if we'll get enough to live on by that time! (30 years to go)

I mean they get paid today so I'll have only loaned them it for a day :p

Anyway I was told I was a bore :rotfl:

Have any of you had such a response, and should I have kept the lecture to myself?

You want an honest opinion? Yes you were a bore! But at least you have learnt so much yourself that you want to pass it on to people.I often have to ask people to lend me a pound purely because I carry so little in my purse I get caught out sometimes, e.g work collections etc....

I am most certainly a 'pay off your mortgage as early as possible' bore !

My friends at work are glad I'm working so hard on doing it though, as the sooner I pay it all off, the sooner I shut up ! :)

    Hmmm - Maybe.

I had a dream last night about desparately trying to pay for something and handing over the cut up bits of my credit card! I woke up very stressed.

Being on this site at every free moment.

The whole concept since of thinking of money in a totally different light.

Mentally analysing other people's lifestyles and wondering if they are in debt too and realising the population operate on two different levels about money.

Yep - I think I've become a debt free bore!
  • I think I may have become a bit of a bore as well!!! Quite amusing as I’m now the opposite of what I used to be!

I’m always looking when people pay by credit card and wonder if they are in debt!!!

I am totally and utterly a DFW bore these days. Every bit of my spare time is spent on this site and constantly revising our budget to make sure I'm still on track. I'm sure my family think I'm mad. I don't care though. I love it on here!

I think you have to strike balance, i mean spending too much time amending your budget leaves less time for the things that are the reason you are doing this.

As for encouraging other people to start using their brain when it comes to finances, what is wrong with that?

I keep telling people claim back your bank charges, but they can't be bothered. I look at the money my family waste and it makes me want to cry. My sister is moving again third time in 9 years and again upping her mortgage. She NEEDS a bigger house as a 2 bedroom isn't big enough to have her 2 boys in. They can't be made to share a room.sigh. Her mortgage has gone from £16,000 to over £60,000 for no real reason.

    Yep, I'm definitely a money-diet bore!

If I'm ever standing behind someone who is paying by credit card, I want to scream 'STOP! Have your thought about what you're doing?'.

I'm always suggesting that people join this site and I tell them with such enthusiasm they can't say 'no'!

I don't go out anymore (well, at least until my debts are paid off) and when I do, it's only for special occasions such as birthdays. Unlike before, I scrutinise every bill and make sure I'm only paying for my share. Blimey, that makes me sound really tight, doesn't it?

Right...I'm off to check my bank balance!! :rotfl:

I am a bit of a debt free bore. I have been talking about here to so many people that some have even come on to have a look, i talk about quidco and pigsclicks and car boots and so on. I talk all the time about budgets and cheap shopping and vouchers and getting the best deal.

My attitude has changed and i think it shows even when i am not talking about the subject, but i want to be a debt free bore, in fact i want to be even more of one than i am now because it helps keep me on track and i think it is even rubbing off on my eldest:rotfl:

I seem to have developed a habit of telling gas/electric salesmen in Sainsburys, the call centre people from Egg (they phoned to say hi and have some PPI :rotfl: ), another one from First Direct (ISA Interest rate not good enough) and various other sales people to come on here and find out why I don't want their product!! :rotfl:

    "Yes, that's right...it's www-dot-moneysavingexpert-dot-com" and they're writing it down....

    Does that count?!
