If you buy now you should get a free upgrade when it appears in October.

Yeah but that's just an upgrade, it's better to get an original install.
  • True as we will lose all the stuff in our computer as in the UK it can only be a 'clean' install which means we wont be able just to upgrade.

Its shipping with the RTM (release to manufacturers) NOT the RC (Release candidate).

It will be an oem edition, the differences between (retail) full and upgrade is irrelevent after its installed surely ? (its only difference being installation pre-requsites).

Its still unclear how manufacturers are going to push win7 upgrades tho.

Those who think that the Windows 7 upgrade (for qualifying PCs, remember) will be at zero charge should read this article... "Free" excludes charges for shipping and handling, plus VAT - Toshiba seems to be charging the most at £27.90, including VAT.

You should find it in the usual shops on October 22nd. I wouldn't get anything sooner with Vista and the upgrade to 7 option when it comes out as it's so close to being out in the wild and it might be painful dealing with any issues that may arise upgrading from one to the other.

That's no longer correct. Upgrade editions are available, although users of XP will not be able to upgrade in the same way that users of Vista can which will retain installed programs, files and settings.

However, the preference should always be a clean install if it is possible to do so.
