If you were within the area which the zigzags bounded then its a fair cop. You really should have not been there, the lines are to keep an area clear for the safety of the children. IMHO its a pay up and don't do it again.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -

When you say you were parallel to the line what do you mean exactly? Stopped in a lane to the right to be of the lines or stopped next to the kerb in the lane for the other direction with no markings?
If you have stopped illegally in an area with school markings I'd just tend to pay up and admit it as a mistake as they are there for safety, but if you were outwith this it may be worth contesting.
We need more detail however.0 -
The zig zag lines were about 2 feet on my left. I stopped on the main road outside the school at 9:06 AM for about 7 seconds and there was no one else about. Was running late but usually walk to school.0

Assuming these are yellow zig-zags and not white ones, OP, you need to find out what time the zig-zags are operational.
If they are white, you must never stop on them.
If they are yellow, they are active only during the hours stated on the sign that accompanies them. They require a plate to be enforceable, as far as I know.0 -
The ones outside our schools are yellow and have times of operation from 8am till 6pm - clearly marked on the signs0

It's exactly people like you the lines are there for. You didn't even park the car at the side of the road, you parked away from the kerb so the wheels of your car wen't on the zig zags.
They're there for a reason, you should be ashamed to even think of contesting it for such a silly reason. I saw a child killed last year because he went into the road whilst a car parked outside the school obscured him from the car that hit him.0 -

Generally at this time of day, yes. But if the lines were non-operational at that time, then the OP was not in the wrong. I think that's highly unlikely, however.0 -

I take your point but even if the lines were not operational, then it's still highly dangerous to stop a car in the middle of the road and let a child out. What's wrong with parking legally and walking the child to the gates?0 -

Too lazy perhaps?0
