Waitrose £5 off £30 Spend in The Sun - 3rd October.... should be accepted by tesco?

Options
Just read this on HUKD;

Waitrose £5 off £30 Spend in The Sun - 3rd October.
Voucher's valid in store from Sat 3 Oct - Sat 10 Oct inclusive.

As usual - voucher's valid on all items excluding: tobacco, stamps, mobile phone top-up vouchers, E top-up, lottery purchases, Gift Vouchers, cash back transactions, car park charges, Waitrose coffee shop and excludes Waitrose motorway service station branches.

The £30 has to be spent in one single transaction and it's one voucher per person.

I think these should be accepted at tesco seeing as it is a spend and save couponwink.gif

Yes, definitely OK at any Tesco if you spend the £30. There is no Manager's Discretion over whether to accept spend & save vouchers from 'all major supermarkets'. Let's hope it scans which makes things easier at the till.

Anyone who gets turned down, go to the CS desk and ask why your spend & save coupon was declined. If they still say no they are incorrect (typical wrong excuses are 'there's no rival Waitrose near enough' or 'we only accept the Sainsburys ones' or 'manager's discretion'). If so you can phone Customer Services at 0800505555 for a giftcard refund and hopefully they will also tell your Store manager to sort out the issue!

Thanks for the heads up, newish! :T

You can't do this everywhere, for instance you can't use a Tesco voucher at Waitrose so it doesn't work vice-versa. 'Spend & save' just means a general conditional spend voucher, like '£3 off when you spend £30' - without any range or product stated on it.

Tesco don't accept other Supermarkets' vouchers with a range or product stated on them (so you can't use a Sainsburys '£5 off when you spend £30 on electricals' or an Asda '50p off Heinz beans' coupon).

Tesco will accept general conditional spend vouchers from 'all major supermarkets' if you spend the amount stated. Their store staff often don't know the rules though so you may get the sort of excuses I have mentioned above. Don't believe a word of it!

If the coupon has a barcode starting with 99 then it will scan at the till. That just makes things a bit easier.

If it has another type of barcode then Tesco should still accept it but will have to enter it as a manual non-scan coupon (which some stores won't do...that's where the CS phone number comes in...).

They even have a new 'button' on their tills now especially for these coupons -

They scan them or manually enter them if there is no bar code (a la farm foods) and they now come up on the recipt as "Competitor Cond", which I assume is for "competitors conditional spend coupon".

Not sure if this has been answered before but can you use this voucher (& other MOCs) with online delivered groceries?

I haven't done this but on www.paidtoshop.co.uk forums I have read a couple of times where regulars have said they do hand over competitors' conditional spend coupons to the driver.

Not sure how it works and how you can be sure it's safely handed in and credited back to your payment card though...obviously you'd have to check but the driver can't scan it or anything so I always thought it could get overlooked.

Other barcoded money off coupons, I am pretty sure 'no' you cannot use for an online shop as the drivers are not 'trained' like cashiers are supposed to be(!) about checking the expiry dates and that they are OK for Tesco, etc.

I tried this with the last LIDL spend & save coupon, I posted it to dundee with a letter, and they just wrote back saying that they'd contacted the store, and
" This coupon was not approved for acceptance by Tesco. coupons of competitors which are approved can be scanned at our checkouts".
Hope this Waitrose one will be better, although I don't have a Waitrose near me for 35 miles, so they may use that as an excuse..

LOL, you got a dumb reply from Dundee, what a shame but typical.

A friend of mine - who uses mocs but doesn't post on MSE - emailed Dundee and got an email back confirming the stores for which Tesco will accept conditional spend vouchers. Guess what was on the list? Lidl...(and Waitys, etc).

May be worth some of you who are unsure if your store will take it, emailing Dundee tomorrow to ask upfront about the Waitys moc which is going to be in the paper at the weekend. Make it clear in your email that it's a conditional spend coupon. Hopefully you'll get a reply you can then take with you when you try to use the Waitys vouchers.

But do have a bit of fun with the most jobsworth of staff - I do!! Don't show your email until you have to! See what they say instore - if declined, ask for the supervisor and let them give all the excuses - then fish your email out and show them it without another word...

me toio there is one person who always refuses to help at cust serv evwen when it is obviouslt tescos error so I love annoying them!! naughty I know.

Best time ever when I spotted the manager at the aside of cust serv but she hadn't so I made my complaint and she refused I asked her to call the manager in a slightly louder voice. of course they walked round the corner and lo and behold the problem was solved.

Best of all as I walked away I heard the manager asking her why she had refused to help??? ho ho.
