abbey zero

Im having such a hard time with them. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this.
At the end of July I applied for the credit card on line and was told that they would make a decision but it can take up to 14 days. I then went away on holiday and when I came back I received an approval letter(over 3 weeks after applying).
I sent away the documentation requested and waited.
About 2 weeks ago I called them up and asked what was happening. They replied that they hadnt received my documents. When I insisted that I had sent them in they gave me a reference number and said someone would call me back. No one did.
After a week I called them again and they told me that my application has been cancelled as I havent been in contact. I give them the reference number they gave me and they have no record of it!!!! their advice is to reapply in branch. When I say thats not acceptable as it will affect my credit rating, they reply "oh well...>"
They have now given me another reference number and once again said that someone will call me to see if they can reinstate my application.

I feel like cancelling now but I need a 0% abroad as Im going for 2 months!!!!!

Anyone have any advice?

  • Abbey is a real pain in the neck to deal with. Their call centre people in my opinion are downright irresponsible - maybe that's their workplace culture - "won't affect my job, customer's finances's not mine, so don't care".

Regarding your case, I suggest you give Abbey complaints a call. Link is here. Must say Complaints department is a lot better than their telephone banking side.

Give it a try. If it's me, I'll give them 2 options.
    a) Reopen the previous application.
    b) Ask that the previous Credit Search to be removed, if they couldn't reopen your application. I will normally follow up by saying they have to pay you £6 so that you can get the 3 CRA reports (from Experian, Equifax & Callcredit). Then reapply again (this time in branch!! - never do things online)

Complaints department is good, but again, you may need some pushing to speed things up.

All the best! Especially for your arteries - a few more dealings with them and I think I can burst an artery.
  • same issue here and they just got crapper by joining allience with another crap bank A & L
