Nikon Coolpix S6 Camera

Hi, don't think anyones going to be able to help here but thought I would try...Just been hunting for my camera and found it in my 5 year olds room, dangling from a teddies arm-apparently shes been taking pictures . Now it all turns on fine, the lens cover slides back as mormal, but it is not gving me a picture. It still takes a photo, but its just black. The menus and everything else come up normal, and it still lets me display saved pictures. Does this sound beyond repair?
Thanks in advance for any help!
Claire

    Hello.

Could you clarify this a little? It sounds like you can see all the menus on the screen at the back, but it's not showing you what it sees through the lens, is that right? Also, you say it take pictures, and can display them - are they proper photographs, or are they just a blank photo?
  • Anything that is stored in my cameras memory is showing up fine, as it normally would, but I cant see anything through the camera now..seems to me like it is the lens, but it looks fine, no cracks or anything.

So when you take photos now, they are completely blank, but the ones you took in the past display just fine, is that correct?

Have you tried clicking the mode dial round a bit, or tried different shooting settings on the mode dial - try full automatic if you haven't already.
  • Yes thats right. Tried most of the different shooting modes and adjusting the flash, etc, nothing changing. Flash and all of that is still going off, but no pic.
  • Even if the lens is cracked or out of alignment you should still be able to see something. It's more likely that the image sensor has been damaged.
  • You've already had a look at the lens and not noticed anything wrong there, so I doubt it's a broken lens.

Okay, I'm running out of troubleshooting ideas. There's just one more thing I can think to try, and that is taking some (apparently blank) photos, then transferring them to your PC and check if they look blank there too.

If they do, then I suggest you have a read of the troubleshooting section of the manual to see if there's anything useful in there (if you haven't already).

Maybe someone else will have some more ideas.
  • It seems a few other people have had this problem with the S6:

Might want to exhaust other possibilities before trying their fix, though.
  • Nelieve it
  • Sorry my computer went a bit funny then! Believe it or not the elbow trick worked! Thanks for that!
