PPI Questionaire

I have sent a letter to my bank to claim back PPI, however they have sent back a questionaire asking us to fill in details of my salary at the time of the loan, how many children I have, retirement age, if we had PPI before the loan or previously... there asking for a copy of the paperwork we have on the loan. An account of the discussion we had with the loan advisor and why I think the loan was mis-sold, which I explained in my letter.
Do I really need to submit this information?

How old is the loan? If it is old then they probably won't have this information on file and need it to investigate the complaint.0

Hi there and welcome.;)
If you taken out the loan say for the past 5/6 years then they should still hold all the information on you, is the loan still active?
Many call this a stalling tactic, but you can complete the questionaire to the best of your knowledge if you want to, and the questions about why you think the loan is mis sold, just write "please refer to my letter dated XX/XX/XXXX which confirms my reasons".
These questions, should have been the questions they would have asked you when you were sold the loan, If this was the case, then tell them that as well.
It's entirely up to you if you want to complete the form, but if the loan is longer than 5 or 6 years, maybe they do require the details, as they do not longer hold them, especially is its a settled loan.
Good luck and remember they must still investigate by 8 weeks.;)
I would still send the form back though, even if you enclose it with a letter, if not completed, and explaining why you have not completed it.The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply.
There is a question asking of my recollection of the meeting, I cant remember much, however I remember that the bank advisor went over the loan figures. she briefly mentioned PPI, She said I must take it to protect my loan which is why I feel I should get a refund. I was never issued any information at the time as my wife keep all paper work. the paper work does not state what illness is covered on the PPI. Other than that I cant remember much.
The loan is still active and has about 8 months left out of 5 years.
My worry is I will put on the form that I cannot remember back that far to the meeting and they will hold it againt me.
For this Question, Should I still write see letter?
Thanks for the help...0 -

I agree. However, you have to be careful not to use the "cant remember" response too often as it does sound strange when you cant remember those details but can explicitly remember how it was or was not sold to you.
Selective memory could work against you. However, so can guessing (or telling lies even) and giving information that is not right. If they can show that information as being very wrong then in areas where a balance of probability decision needs to be made, you havent done yourself any favours. Template letters have fallen foul of this before.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

Where the template on here is used i always say to people to use it only as a guide and state your own reasons for misselling.
Thanks dunstonh. I could do with some advice from you myself. Would it be OK to pm you.0 -

- Did the adviser make it clear that the insurance was optional?
- . Did the adviser tell you about the 'significant exclusions' under the policy? For example, the exclusion that states you won't be covered for any pre-existing medical condition, you might not be covered if you are over 65 or if you are self employed or on a fixed term contract?
- If you took out a loan or finance agreement, did the adviser make it clear that you would have to pay for the insurance up front in a single payment?
- If you had to pay for the insurance as a single premium, did the adviser make it clear that the insurance cost would be added to the loan and you would be paying interest on it?
- If your PPI policy expires before your loan or finance agreement does, you'll be paying interest on insurance that is no longer in force. Did the adviser make this clear?

I can remember asking if i'm covered for unemployment but that's all I was advised. the loan advisor never went into great details about the PPI. Also, It is part of the loan with interest. I was not aware there where other options. Or that I could have got the insurance from another company...0
