Claiming tax back

I haven't earned anything during this academic year, apart from a couple of weeks over the summer where I was taxed at the BR presumably because I didn't have a P45 at hand at the time.
So I am wondering what the proceedure is re: claiming it back, as I have been given conflicting advice.
Do I wait until the end of this financial year, or can I claim now. I'm not sure if I'll be working anytime soon, but I'm wondering what would happen if I claim it back then later on in the year find myself in employment?

You royally p*** off HMRC.
If you think you might get a job, its easier to leave it until the end of the tax year. If you do end up getting a job you can hand in your P45 which you have just got and it adjusts itself for tax. Making things a whole lot easier.
As a student, having a nice bonus from tax rebate at Easter comes in handy though0
