Delia's Happy Christmas

Options
When I am not reading the lakeland catalogue;), I spend alot of time either on here or on Amazon and have just pre-ordered this book. I wonder if anyone knows if there will be an accompanying series? I always use the original Delia's Christmas book and am looking forward to this one.

  • Mmm.. I saw this, I'm not certain but I reckon it is a rehash of her old Christmas book with a few new recipes thrown in to liven it up. Perhaps I'm just being cynical.

I received an email from Amazon saying it was half price to preorder, I did wonder if it might just be a rehash of her earlier book, which I do have. I have had a look and it does say that there are 100 new recipes. Maybe there is going to be a TV series to go with it.

I do buy too many cook books so I am trying to limit myself to one a month, this months was the River Cottage Everday book. so I think I may wait and see if anyone recommends the book. I am being better in that I get them from the library first, I can then buy if I think it is worth it.

I don't think the essential Christmas recipes will have changed - after all, she makes a point of saying she has been using the same Christmas cake and pudding recipes since the year dot. I'm a bit wary since I bought her special WH Smith exclusives two years running and there was very little to distinguish them. Frankly the second one was a bit of a con

However I'm sure it will be beautifully packaged and presented. I may fall for temptation anyway
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Now, there's a book I wouldn't hesitate to recommend;). I've made at least 6 things from it already. I'm in the process of making the sour dough starter and tonight we're having the tupperware Mexican chorizo as meatballs -smells gorgeous.

I'm not convinced that it won't be a re-hash of her original Christmas book, but if it isn't I will be buying it.

It was due to your recommendation that I went ahead and bought it, so thanks.
  • i love delia, it is the most ingredient splattered book on my shelf..... i also think its a rehash but thats ok as you can give it as an xmas present to someone who is yet to discover the delights.

Bumping this because the book is now out and I had a look in Waitrose today.

I recognise a lot of the recipes, menu plans and photos from the two specials she did for WH Smith a few years ago - not all but a lot and when you add it to the old recipes plus the chapter on the last 36 hours which is reproduced from the original book it means there is a relatively small amount I haven't seen before. So for me it wouldn't be worth buying. However if you did not see those magazines at the time it probably would be new enough compared with the original Christmas book and the pictures are very attractive as usual

  • My copy arrived from Amazon today and I think it is fab! I know that alot of the recipes are from the original book but they are now all in metric (better for my digital scales!) and there are lots of really nice new ones and some lovely menu suggestions. I tend to read all cookbooks like novels and, whist I make some of the things, I mostly just kind of absorb the ideas and incorporate them into my own versions (mostly nice but sometimes a bit iffy.....). I love the sound of the chestnut cupcakes and I may try the mincemeat - never tried it from the old book but I really HATE candied peel and this way I can leave it out!

I do hope they make a series out of it because I love Delia!
