Advice needed - Vendor pulling out

Hi All,
I have got myself into a very frustrating situation and any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I had an offer accepted around 8 weeks ago and we were in the process of carrying out all the searches and the survey. All these have now been completed and I have spent around £1000 to obtain all the required documents. There are two outstanding enquiries which the Vendor's solicitors are yet to answer but we were hoping to exchange contracts by the end of this week.
Here comes the twist, the Vendor has now decided to withdraw the property from the market and wants to pull out of the transaction despite me having spent all that time and money.
Is there anything that I could now do? Would it be possible to claim any of the expenses?
Many Thanks

Either side can pull out at any point before contracts are exchanged and I'm afraid that you have no claims against them.
It's one of the joys of property buying I'm afraid.“Don't do it! Stay away from your potential. You'll mess it up, it's potential, leave it. Anyway, it's like your bank balance - you always have a lot less than you think.”
