Funeral costs?

This was the only thread section that I could find as suitable.

Anyway, some ppl here will think is he mad? But how much does a dignified funeral cost?

I'm 23 but let's say I got killed in a road traffic incident tomorrow, i wouldn't want my family be lumbered with a large debt so you never know.

As far as I know its around £3000?

that's funeral cost alone without the grave stone, with the co-op anyway gold standard.

Anyone?

Yes you are about spot on although it all depends on how many cars you hire and flowers and so on.
Nature wants the human race to survive. However, it does not depend on us because we are not its only invention.

A recent cremation co-op funeral (with no plaque or ashes pot or anything) cost about £3,500 with only one family funeral car. That was with one of the cheaper coffins too - some of the coffins cost over £1k for that alone.

I suppose like anything else it depends on the area you live in, but I would have thought that your figure of £3k is a reasonable guesstimate at today's prices.

You can have a funeral for ~£1500 if you chose not to have family cars and decide to buy a few bouquets from the local florist rather than 'funeral' flowers.
Alteratively you can donate your body and brain to medical research which costs nothing (with the exception of possible transport of the body to the medical facility dependent on where you donate your body to and where you died) and have a simple memorial service. Much cheaper, you can still have a lasting memorial in the form of a tree or bench with a plaque and you are able to help others even after death.
  • That sounds about right without the gravestone. The last funeral I did was my mum's and it cost £5200 all in, which included the funeral package (undertaker, burial, coffin, two cars, fees etc) and flowers, gravestone (£1400) and a wake for 50 people. That was in London and was a very nice send off.
