Our deadline was today but had problems

  • in my experience this is a standard EA trick to increase the price!

    many years ago when we were buying our second home, we got a call from the EA to say that the vendor had a better offer from a 'friend' and we needed to pay more - we were really angry as part of our offer was that the house was taken off the market. So we called their bluff, told them we were angry and would pull out - funnily enough it then turned out that the whole thing had been a misunderstanding and we carried on...hhhmmmm...

    at the same time, a colleague was buying through the same EA and had a very similar experience - was rung and told that the EA had the vendor on the line, price going up etc, my colleague put them on hold, went to another phone and called the vendor direct (proving they weren't on the other line!) and they had no knowledge of a price increase.
