laser cut mdf for radiator cover

In true MSE form i'm trying to weigh up the costs of making my own radiator cover (30 year old woman, clueless but keen :D ) or just paying for a ready made one and lining big cat's pocket.

Anyone know where I could get a laser cut piece of mdf to gloss, how much it's likely to be and are there any regualtions on radiator covers. Any help would be very much appreciated. Please go easy on me, I hold my hands up to being a little pathetic on the DIY front.

You can buy the patterned mdf for the cover in the DIY sheds and they will cut it size for you but if you're clueless then why not just look around for a cheapish one? It's more like a box than a simple panel and unless you've got the tools and the knowhow, you'll end up making a pigs ear of it.

Don't use gloss paint. Use satinwood or eggshell for a softer look.

If funds are tight, I bet you could find a used one on ebay and give it a good sand down and a fresh lick of paint.

There are no regs for radiator covers - it's only a piece of metal filled with water.
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

wickes BQ and others, do various mdf panels with designs on them.
dont mess it up though, its an pretty expensive mistake to make.
you can buy the whole thing for 40/60 quid.
    Get some gorm.

Thank you! I didn't think of ebay actually and satinwood/eggshell advice been stored.

It's to fit into an alcove (old doorway before extention) so the idea was toattach a frame with the mdf in the middle then secure it between the two walls with a piece of wood ontop.

Funds are stupidly tight, trying to make a home with very little surplus income, it's challenging but enjoying that challenge. I have the tools (DH in tool hire) but the know how? no

Thank you for that. Hmm maybe freecycle request needed or ebay like suggested before, that's too much for me.

    Thanks everyone.

They sell them in Netto every now and again, I got one for £20 a year or so ago, but I've seen them quite recently. I'd go for buying one rather than try to make one.

Hi i got ours in B&Q a while back for £9-99! its got the criss cross design on and i have painted the same colour as the walls and it looks nice..better than the radiator did! one tip i would give is to spray paint it outside first as the little holes took hours to paint and close up still isn't perfect but id'e had enough!
