Quiet DVD burner/rom required

Hi,

The loudest part of my pc is the optical dvd burner i have. It's a NEC 3500AG.

So I'm looking for recommendations on a quiet (or at least quieter) drive. I don't actually mind if its a little noisy while burning but it's when i'm playing back a dvd that matters more.

Currently, the 'spinnning' noise is unacceptable and can be heard easily during quiet scenes in the movie.

Any suggestions welcomed, thank you.

You could rip DVDs to the hard disk using DVD Decrypter so the disk wont be spinning during playback and then delete it when you've watched it. This is what we do with our media pc. How long it takes depends on your system and the DVD. Takes about 5-20 mins with a Pentium D.
