What to put on direct pay receipt?

Hi,
We are paying PWC directly, and would like to know what's best to write on the receipt? I understand we need to write that it is maintenance and the names of the children who it's for. Then the date - do we write the period of time that the maintenance payment covers? Do we write my husbands name and that he has paid it? Or does it just need the PWCs signature that she has received it? It's a minefield! We just want to make sure he's covered

If it was me I would put everything on it, both names the date of the transaction the period it is for etc. Its better to have too much info than not enough ;)

    Document all payments properly!
By that I mean you should make sure that there cannot be any misunderstanding what the payments are actually for in the future.

You should do more than just cross a cheque.....you should also

send a letter with each payment that you make, to the effect that the payment is specifically made to support your child (ren).

edit...You should also name the child (ren) that the payment is for.
edit...The letter has to state that the money is for child maintenance and it must also stipulate for what period

Postal orders will suffice provided that you keep the stub, DO NOT LOSE THEM!
Ensure that it has the correct name in the payee section. Ensure that you cross the order or make sure that it is crossed when you buy it. If you dont cross it then it can be cashed and is much more difficult to trace in the future. Dont forget to send a letter with the postal order as I have specified above.....and again...very important indeed...
    DO NOT make cash payments!

If you make payments through a bank, then I would advise that each time a payment is taken from your account, then you also send the letter as detailed above, to the PWC.

Keep copies of these letters, DO NOT LOSE THEM!
Make sure that each letter is dated with the same date that is on the cheque.
    DO NOT make cash payments!

Thanks to kelloggs36 who posts on here for some of the above information
  • Is your case being dealt with via the csa?

i'm guessing the csa aren't involved.

i'd be inclined to pay her via SO bank to bank with payments ref "child maintenance"

no comebacks or claims of falsified reciepts then, as bank statements don't lie.
NEVER ARGUE WITH AN IDIOT. THEY'LL DRAG YOU DOWN TO THEIR LEVEL AND BEAT YOU WITH EXPERIENCE.

and, please. only thank when appropriate. not to boost idiots egos.
  • If it is dealt with by the csa then you need to look after yourself in terms of payments and pay via the csa that way nothing can bite you in the bum later on!;)

Wrong as there is no automatic right to request a copy of her bank statement showing the payments. You could also be paying to your own high interest savings account for all anyone knows. In the best case scenario, if she didn't contest your claim or reply to requests to confirm the payments, you would probably be believed.

I would get one of those carbon copy books..... write both parents names, and write the amount and that the payment is for child maintenance for "child x" for "this date" to "that date". Print both parents names and both sign next to names. In the event that the csa gets involved, you could send them the copies after you have copied them, and still hang onto the originals. It may seem a lot when both parties are amicable, but when things turn nasty, it can save a lot of hassle.

Why would you need the PWC bank statements  your own bank statement details when money comes out and who it is payable to when you do a SO.

Because your own bank statement only shows the money leaving your account, and doesn't show it arriving anywhere else. Unless it quotes the sort code and account number that the csa hold for the pwc it isn't proof. Don't forget that a lot of pwcs still use giro as a method of payment.

Say for instance you pay your electric bill by bank transfer online. Can you prove it arrived? No....you rely on the electricity company to credit your account when the payment gets there. If you were taken to court for non payment, you would not have proof that they received it, only the proof that you sent it...somewhere.

Proof of child maintenance payments has to be watertight for the sake of the person making the payment. I could make a payment to my savings account and call it maintenance. It doesn't prove anything.

So if they are involved then its not amicable so pay through them and cover yourselves. If its a private arrangement then the carbon copy book is a great idea followed by a standing order payment:T
