Noise in Townhouses?

Town houses may or may not be noisy depending upon the build. But there are loads of other problems with them:-

    * When your children are able to climb out of their cot they will. They will want to come to mummy and daddys room - you need to be on the same floor as them until they are at least 5.

    * If you are lucky enough to have a play room, they are glorified cupboards. The toys live there at night and you close the door on them to keep them out of sight and mind. During the day, a small child will want to play with their toys around you, if your play room is on a different floor they will just bring them all up stairs to the kitchen etc.

    * Where will you keep your pushchair. When you child falls asleep you wheel them through the front door and leave them asleep in the hall way. Except you will be on a different floor.

    * Town houses normally have small gardens and families need bigger gardens. Your children want to kick a ball and run around. You can't run around in 30 foot x 35 foot. And it is horrible feeling overlooked.

The detached house does not look ugly. Okay nobody opts for a flat roof but I think it has been done nicely and looks far better than the town house. Which in my honest opinion is horrible horrible horrible.

Oh - I can see from the picture that the town house will have cars driving past the side of it all the time.

Don't fall for the new build trap. Once you are in a house you can do it up slowly. Moving house costs a lot of money, if you buy the town house, what is there to say that you will be able to afford to move when you get children.

We had the same dilemma and decided to go for a new townhouse, 4 beds, great views from 1st floor lounge, all for £130k. There is less noise from neighbours through the walls than we had with our old semi! 3 lively children next door, but we miss the privacy in the garden.
