Hi all,
Has anyone used scrapcar.co.uk?
I put my car on there to be scrapped at 1 o clock, have not had a phone call yet and after speaking to my OH he has told me not to scrap it.
On going back to the website i have noticed it says you can only cancel within 30mins of booking or there is a £50 fine.
How legal is this and would i be under contract to pay it if i cancelled?

A "contract" has been agreed. That said they can only ask for reasonable damages by a breach of it.
My guess would be they sell the leads on and get given a fee for finding scrap cars for nothing when places would pay the owners direct for scrap metal.
So basically they have in theory lost out on the value they would have received now.
That said it would be hard to prove.
I'd phone and cancel now and follow up in an email. Dont mention the fee etc and wait and see what happens.
If they ask for it ask them for written quantification of the £50 they have lost through your breach of contract before you will agree stating any "fine" is illegal and they can only ask for reasonable incurred costs.0
