i currently have kaspersky internet security 2009 and it runs out in a few weeks time. my plan is to replace it with the 2010 version. my main problem is i have read conflicting info. i have read that i need to install 2010 ontop of the existing version. i have also read that i need to remove my current 2009 version before installing 2010. also can i remove 2009 just by using the uninstall program on the pc or do i need to use something from kaspersky like people do when they remove norton? i have read that upgrading to 2010 is free, is that correct?

You must delete KIS 2009 before installing KIS 2010, using add/remove programs in windows.
You can upgrade to the 2010 version for free via Kaspersky site, but doing this does not extend your current subscription validity period. So in short, when your current license runs out you will need to purchase a new copy of KIS 2010 to continue using it for a further year.0 -

i might as well do what i planned and buy a copy then. i prefer to buy the disc rather than purchase a download.
will the regular uninstall program get rid of it then or do i need to use something from the kaspersky site?0 -
I'm puzzled - if you buy Kaspersky it's valid for one year or two years. Upgrades during this period are free.
So I bought a copy of Kaspersky 2009 from Amazon, much cheaper than they were selling 2010 for, then immediately upgraded it by downloading the 2010 update.
Does your 2009 version still have some time to run? If so, bite the bullet and download about 64 MB of program, and then what seemed to be about 80 MB of updates before it was satisfied it was up-to-date. Then you have 2010...0 -
Yeah, its probably cheaper to buy from somewhere like amazon for £20 -£25 mark rather than directly from Kaspersky.
The regular uninstall program in windows control panel is fine.
As John Gray has said, Kaspersky 2010 can install onto the older version ok, but I think deleting the old 2009 version first is sort of good housekeeping and reduces the risk of redundant files being left to haunt the hard drive.0 -

i only have a few weeks left before i need to renew. i think 2010 is only £19 at amazon.0 -
My Kaspersky licence also runs out in a few weeks, I have already purchased the 2010 version from Amazon at about £20.00 for a 3 licence copy in readiness.
I am already running the 2010 version having upgraded a few months ago and plan to just swap the licence number for the new one.0
