Hi
Can someone advise? As we are in dispute with our tenant who is moving out on 13th October, I have contacted the Council Tax and told them that she will be leaving then.
As we dont have a forwarding address for the said tenant.....should I / would it be in my interest to contact any other utilities people or is this unethical?

Depends on the dispute. But in your position, I would not do anything until she is gone. Whey make yourself liable if she overstays?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

Very true. Can always wait until the day she leaves....Thanks!!0

If you know the utility company's the tenants have used, then its sensible to notify them when the tenants have moved out and give them the latest current meter and date of leaving. They will ask for either the new tenants details or the landlords, so they can take over the account for any future usage from the leave date. I don't know if they are able to chase the landlord for unpaid bills, so hopefully someone with more letting knowledge will be able to confirm.
Good luck.0 -
Thanks. Thats what is worrying me as we dont have a forwarding address....0

Simply take over the utility bills on the day the Ts leave by taking meter readings and supplying them to the companies involved.
LL is not responsible for debt on accounts in a Ts name.
Keep a copy of the tenancy agreement to show to anyone who disputes the position (to prove the tenancy).
How the companies and coucil track down a new address for the Ts is not your responsibility.0 -
councils talk to each other about council tax absconders and as soon as he registers as living somewhere else - his details get passed on to other authorities who he owes money to0
