Renting with low credit score

Options
Hello Me and My partner are interested in a property

we have paid the admin fee of £200 + vat for the checks and fee's which is good.

However i am abit concerned as my score is only 541 with equifax but 640 with experian, I have the tenant referencing company use experian personally i dislike equifax.

the score is due to some late payments back in 2006 - 2007 lesson learnt, i am on the elect roll, unfortunately i have not made any applications for credit in the last 12 months, this is due to trying to get a clean sheet.

also i don't want a credit card, as i dont need 1, personally i think credit scoring is in away wrong and critisize the ppl who dont want a credit card or loan, i know it's based on ur worthyness but anywhos, do you think that i would need a guarantor to cover my back. i earn 20k per annum?

the only loan im paying is £4,500 which is an agreement with the horrid lloyds tsb

Are the debts relating to the late payments now up to date? If so then I suspect that you may find a LL willing to take you.

It would have been better to have been up front with the LL about your previous problems. In future it would always be worth mentioning these things up front. That way you avoid looking like you are trying to hide something and get to put your side of the story.
  • I hope you dont mind me asking, but what were the late payments for?

I'm in the same situation although I don't know my credit score, I got in debt at uni with overdrafts and charges but paid it all up straight. I still have the overdrafts although I have been paying them off regularly, and a credit card and loan but they are all paid monthly by direct debit.

The only thing I have paid late recently is council tax which I'm a little behind on but bringing up to date at the end of this week and the council said I had to pay it by the 1st November so I'm well within this.

I wondered if this would mean I would fail the credit check for the flat that I've just paid a holding deposit on?
