Ink absorber almost full! pixma MP110

I have this message in my printer at moment - "Ink absorber almost full" it is a pixma MP110 - I just inserted the CD that came with it for the user guide - but the CD appears to be blank! (It has been is a cupboard since we got it!) Any ideas on "emptying" the Ink absorber??

  • Oh dear, are these replaceable I dont know. Could be messy I would place a tray and newspapers under printer to protect area. Read the manual and browse the eab site for help.
  • Turn on your MP110.
After that press: Menu - Scan - Copy - Scan.
It will enter in Service Mode.
Here I don't know exactly the procedure but may be something like that for mpc190/200 that follow:
Resetting the Waste Ink Volume Counter
    1) Enter SERVICE MODE.---
    By pressing Menu-Copy-Scan-Copy-Copy
    2) Select TEST MODE.
    3) Select [8] PRINTER TEST in TEST MODE.
    4) Select 3. [EEPROM CLEAR].
    5) Select 0. [INK COUNT].
    6) Press the [OK] key.
    7) Press the [Stop/Reset] key (returning to the state of 3)), and then press the [ON/OFF] key.

This is one of the worst things about Canon inkjet printers. If the MP110 is like many others in the Pixma range, you won't find any instructions in the manual because Canon want you to send it back and pay an arm and a leg for them to fix it.

You can do it yourself and there are loads of "how-tos" out there, but as TS says, it will be a bit messy.

You also need to reset the printer after replacement (or washing the existing pad), as shown here:

    http://tricks-collections.com/how-to-reset-canon-pixma-mp110-mp130-mp150-mp190-mp450/

You ~may~ find that it will last for ages by just resetting without touching the pad (because the message is triggered by number of page print/cleaning cycles, not how full the pad is) but you risk it overflowing and making a real mess eventually.

After reading that you may prefer to just bin it and buy a new printer - it could work out cheaper.

I regret to inform you that current government legislation prohibits the re-sale of a car with a full ash tray. Please take the contents of your ash tray to a government-approved recycling centre and then report to your local council for mandatory environmental health training.

    Thank you for your co-operation.

I haven't done one of these but I have done a number of Epsons. It IS messy to clean the Ink Absorber pad. I then recommend re-routing the purge pipe into an external tank. Next time you'll just have to clear the counter.

There are a number of sites on this subject. Try Googling it.
