Im currently with tiscali and need to change my home number but Tiscali say they cant do this.

Does anyone know how I can change it? Maybe by switching providers. BT will only do it if I sign upto a 12 month line rental contract  which I wouldnt mind if their prices were competitive with broadband and phone bundles
Wins so far this year: Mum to be bath set, follow me Domino Dog, Vital baby feeding set, Spiderman goody bag, free pack of Kiplings cakes, £15 love to shop voucher, HTC Desire, Olive oil cooking spray, Original Source Strawberry Shower Gel, Garnier skin care hamper, Marc Jacobs fragrance.

You can do it however it's BT who issue the phone numbers to your phone provider & often charge for the service.
Used to get this all the time when working for NTL as sometimes BT would'nt allow the number to be ported over to cable.

Your 12 month BT contract only ties you for line rental, not calls or broadband. You could have calls through Sky and broadband from O2 whilst still having your line rental at BT.

Hi emweaver, if there is anything that I can assist you with just let me know.
    Official Company Representative
I am the official company representative of BT. MSE has given permission for me to post in response to queries about the company, so that I can help solve issues. You can see my name on the companies with permission to post list. I am not allowed to tout for business at all. If you believe I am please report it to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com This does NOT imply any form of approval of my company or its products by MSE"

The usual way to assist people in this forum is to offer advice openly. You could look at the posts prior to yours to see how it's done.

It is hard to see how your response helps emweaver or anyone else who has a similar problem and who reads this thread some time in the future. Even a simple 'No, it can't be done because . . . . . ' or 'It's possible but . . . . . .' would give everyone the opportunity to add to the comment.
I am not allowed to tout for business at all.
    Mmm.

This isnt correct , OFCOM allocate numbers not BT, to the OP question
if you pay your line rental to Tiscalli and they wont renumber you then
you would have to look at another provider....most providers apart from
BT dont offer renumbers , some will reluctantly offer renumbers if the
reason is malicious calls and you have informed the police etc...if its just
because you want another number they wont do it....
Most providers want you to commit to a mimimum term, so BT are no different
    in that respect

Post Office Phones will do it. They do charge, though.
