Hi there
I have a 2006 Citroen C8 automatic which I bought in June and I am nervous after reading several articles relating to the unreliability of the auto gearboxes amongst other faults throughout the car and think that it could be worthwile getting a warranty. Just wondered what anyone thought about these warranties and which one would be the best one to go for.
Thanks for any suggestions
Dave

usually a waste of time as the tend to wriggle out of everything, it will be fine0 -
Like you I thought it would be a good idea to take a policy out on my car. Went to Warranty Holdings, who incidentally are crap. My air conditioning compressor went, was within the warranty, but because the repair was going to cost £1000+ and their claim limit was £500, they did not pay out. They did not even pay out the £500 worth of the claim.
They are all cowboys. Avoid.0 -
Well maybe if you paid up for their slightly higher cover, which is the purchase price, then you could have had your compressor fixed...
the warranties I sell are always Purchase Price for this reason, so the customer getsa good deal...
ps i've been using Warranty Holdings - or Auto Protect as they are now known for 14 years...0 -
I know a number of people happy with warranty direct who publish a wear and tear policy which is along the lines of decreased parts cost cover 70/80K+ miles.
The most comprehensive policy is best, check no exclusions are snuck in (like not covering autobox on a C8) then follow claims procedure (if you have to) exactly and there are no problems.0 -
I have used warranty direct. Found them to be pretty good. Cover is fairly comprehensive and they do pay out when they should. Only minor downside is they dont use maindealers but thats not a biggie on a 3 year plus car as long as the repair is standard and not some complex ECU issue.
Main thing worth remembering is when I got the quote I did it online but never accepted it (just got quote raised)
They phoned me next day (or couple of days) and it was probably the most professional well handled sales call I have ever come across (and I have worked in the business) By that I dont mean it was hard sell or aggressive but very polite, clear, and knowledgable. The other bonus was he discounted the price for me and through in a higher level of cover for free.
Think its the first time I have ever bought something from a follow up call of that nature.
Be aware though that if your car is still under warranty you could extend manufacturers warranty with them. Personally I would probably do that and buy a service package at the same time.
It ties you to them but the level of cover is as good as you will find.0 -
Forgot to say - if you go warranty direct let me know as they sent me some intro vouchers things. Happy to split them or send them all your wayif they can do that for additional dscount.0

I've heard this experience before, especially the call back a few days later with a discount bit
RE: using main dealers. You can use main dealers for work, it's an optional extra on the policy quoted as £25 for using a BMW dealer about a year ago.
Make sure you get the extended warranty sorted out before the current warranty expires so you always have cover. Otherwise there is a 3 month period before you are allowed to claim.
Not sure about service packs, with the BMW ones you have to be doing a pretty high mileage for them to be worth it and then you loose flexibility. I pay as I go and can choose to have a oil change a few thousand miles early if I am in for other service work (oil changes are normally every 18,000 to 22,000 miles approx. depending on how the car is used).0 -
If you get any more than 75K miles out of a autobox in a C8 then it should be considered a bonus.
Lots of people here praising Warranty Direct.... my warranty ran out late last year and I called them. Asked them several questions as to what was covered, and asked them to send T&C's.... when they arrived I did read them and the answers were different to what I received on the phone. Lots of wear and tear items...
Bottom line is the only warranty worth having is a manufactures one. Balance the cost of that against the cost of a new box.
Also will you actually reach 75K before selling?0 -
