OMG I have so much stuff! I've found my daughter's hockey socks! Yeay! I've found £23.40 too. We are onto our third skip. Anyway, very therapeutic chucking out all my ex's stuff that he has kept storage free for the last 6 years ...

You wouldn't believe what I've given to charity. Full dinner service which I won't use anyway as we had it as a wedding present, golf clubs, lovely coffee maker. I know I could have sold them, but someone else will have something lovely and I felt great! I even get rid of the debt he left me with!

We had one (international) move where the skip was still there on moving day. We weren't taking cheap-to-replace stuff. By the end, the porridge pan ended up on the skip unwashed!

Yes I can see us getting to that stage. Almost everything is going in it now, I can't be bothered to wrap it up to stop it breaking. I've gotten really blaze and at last count 10 wine glasses went on (cheap ones which will be recycled). I would rather give up wine - maybe not!

Gonna get a skip myself I think, should I ever get to move. Got loads of stuff I could sell, but just can't be bothered. Be nice to de-clutter.

I had a 6 bed house (and 2 days between exchange and complettion) to clear when everybody let me down. Nobody came to my sale of household goods open day, the charity shop turned up to say they couldn't take anything as they were already full up, then the final "take everything" man was a no show, finally got hold of him at lunchtime and he said the van had broken down, if I left it all outside he'd take it sometime in the week ...

    Oh noes!!!

It was one mad dash using two old pensioners and one tiny trailer to get it all taken down the local tip.

If you don't want money for it try putting unwanted stuff on Freegle (formerly Freecycle). Some items go like hotcakes, others generate no interest, and sometimes people say they want item, but fail to collect. But in the main you get rid of a lot of stuff to really grateful people.

My freecycle experience was less satisfying. Lots of no shows, a lot of effort, and it was nearly 3 weeks (paying rent and unable to return key) to get rid of the old kitchen appliances. If moving, and lacking storage space, I'm not sure I'd go that way (a friend managed the process for me ... she now agrees she wouldn't do it again).

We've had three skips. The skip hire is an ethical company, so I feel a bit better about chucking stuff. Also loads of furniture gone to charity (a lorry full), which they picked up for free. All books (of which we had loads as both studied for years and childrens books) went to a fete at the weekend in our local village. Plant pots gone next door. We have hired our own van, and got a quote for removals of the heavy stuff. We have a gardener sorting out the garden tomorrow, a cleaner coming in when all stuff has gone, and an ironing lady taking the ironing and then delivering it back next week to the new address. Sounds expensive, but I've managed to take less time off work so kept my holidays, and forked out for luxury help instead.
