Travel insurance excluding pre-existing medical condition

Options
We are trying to find travel insurance for my husband who has terminal cancer. His prognosis is in excess of 12 months, he is not currently having treatment and his specialist has given him clearance to travel.

Is there a company that will exclude the cancer but insurance him for other medical expenses (e.g. if he broke his arm)? So far we have only found companies that include the cancer (premiums quoted so far £1500 to £3000) or have refused to cover him at all.

As this is our honeymoon we are quite keen to go!

Thanks for any assistance.

Try Direct Line. They will want to ask questions about the cancer anyway so they can specify on your documents that its excluded, but if you ask them they'll exclude his existing conditions no problem. If I remember correctly you'll need to phone them to do it though.

Good luck and enjoy your honeymoon.

You must talk to the insurer direct! This is very important. Each company will exclude the cancer but as it is terminal, most companies will not cover him.
Motto: 'If you don't ask, you don't get!!'

Remember to say thank you to people who help you out!

Also, thank you to people who help me out.

My friend had terminal cancer and got insurance through Citibond for 5 months in Zante. It did cover the cancer, but at a higher excess of £250.

Her total insurance premium was £67 (sixty seven). However I have read of people trying them since then and they either wouldn't cover or the cost was excessive. Still worth a punt though.

Thanks to you all for your replys - it was lovely to see them all waiting for me.

The good news is that we have managed to obtain insurance excluding the cancer. We contacted BIBA the British Insurance Brokers Association (telephone 0870 950 1790). They tried a couple places who were unable to help but then put me through to B Portwood & Co (tel 01207 509446). They provided a provisional quotation and gave us the telephone number of Tokio Marine Europe who then undertook a medical screening on the phone. They then provided a reference number which we passed back to B Portwood & Co.

We have been offered cover, excluding the cancer, for £66.96 for the both of us. We realise that we are taking a risk but could not afford the premiums previously quoted and due to my husband still being very fit and active we feel this is far better than travelling with no insurance at all.

    Hello

Sorry to hear about your situation, our is the same though.

We went to crete earlier in the year, and got cover via Gill Noble, with the existing terminal pancreatic cancer and other health problems covered by Healthcheck247(europ assitance), the total cost for hubby was about £150 for 9 days. I think Crete is a less liked destination. I did find another insurer that was happy to cover but not Crete. Apparantly health/hospital care in Greece is not considered good enough

We felt much better for having the cover.

I got mine separately as it worked out cheaper, I ended up with annual cover for the same price as the single trip.

Tel no Gill Noble is 0208 464 6636

tel no for underwriters is 0845 618 0341

    Good luck
