Avira Problems poss under threat

Hi Windows have thrown up a message that my computer is infected and under threat. Checked avira and guard has stopped. Tried to start up but not responding. Trying to scan but get error message (aecore.dll) what shall i do?
Update seems to be taking a long time to search also.
