I have found plenty of threads on here and elsewhere on the internet, but nothing obvious in the last couple of months. Am hoping a regular traveller on First Class Virgin trains can help. To keep it simple!:-

1. I am travelling from Euston to Manchester on a First Class Advance ticket at 12.40pm next month on a Friday. What will I actually get in terms of food? Is it a hot meal, fancy sandwich, hot baguette? Dessert or cake included? If I decide to have a glass of wine or other alcohol beverage is that included or charged?

2. Am I expected to tip, and if so, how much?

Many thanks.

I would assume wine is extra. The last time i travelled first there was complimentary bottled water, tea and coffee so didn't need anything else really.

Tip if you think the service warrants it, not because its expected. 10% is probably the norm but my tip is normally dictated by what cash i have on me at the time so sometimes under or over.
  • The link is what I have already looked at, and is just a basic summary.

I go along with what you have put regards tipping:-) I tend to do the same. Only reason for asking is that about 30 years ago the son of my boss worked for the old British Rail as some sort of attendee in First Class. I always remember him saying he would be insulted if he had anything offered as a tip that was less than a pound! Maybe in those days it warranted it, but it always stuck in my memory:D My reasons (for the curious) of First Class is purely for health/comfort/mobility. Also it was a cheap deal:T
