Boiler Controllers - More Efficiency?

Options
Does anyone have any experience with advanced boiler controllers? I have seen some on the internet from a company called Heatingsave and they claim to save a chunk by better managing the efficiency for the boiler. Does anyone else have any experience of boiler controllers?

  • Sounds dodgy to me. I'm sure the origional manufactures would have fined tuned you're boilers controls to be as efficient as it can be.

I've looked at this, for my standard combi, I decided an advanced programmable thermostat with optimum start would get me most of the benefits (for about £60). Some boilers interface with their own programmable thermostats and adjust the flow temperature to suit, this seems like a good idea.

Looking at the claims made on their website, I suspect you will be asked to pay a hell of a lot for an advanced programmable thermostat.

Whilst advanced progammable thermostats will save money, they won't save anything like the claims made on their website.

Read up/phone up the Energy Saving Trust and get their advice.

Look up firms like Honeywell to see what they offer.
  • What the system appears to do is slightly more than just turn the boiler on and off. The company states that it can monitor heating throughout the house and outside and make 'intelligent' adjustments. It also suggest that you could use PIR detectors to sense if someone is in the room and adjust the heating. Obviously this would involve setting it up, but it is more intelligent heating I guess.

I'm not sure Honeywell does this as it requires interface with computers software as well. More of a total heating system than just a boiler controller I guess.

    As above.

Our plumber installed a Honeywell CM907 (7-day programmable thermostat) in our flat when we moved in and I enabled optimum start. It works pretty well and I've been very impressed so far.
