Does Anyone Know Where I Can Get Some Help?

Options
Hi I was just wondering if anyone knew where I can get some help towards getting a new cooker and carpet for my house. I have just moved into the council house and have neither. I am claiming Incapacity Benefit and my partner works and we get Working Tax Credits. If anyone could give me some suggestions I would be very grateful. Thank you very much.

Have your tried freecycle? If you look up your local group, you might be lucky and find a cooker/carpet on there, and it's free as long as you pick it up.

Otherwise I think there may a Crisis Loan from the Department of Work and Pensions, so might be worth giving them a ring to see if that's something that may help.

Ask your Housing Officer for advice on this. They should be able to help you access a budgeting loan (I think) and may also know of other sources of assistance.

  • Also may be worth ringing your local council. My council is refurbishing white goods which they sell in a shop unit that was empty in the city centre.
