Hi Guys n Gals,
Firstly not sure if this is in the correct forum, if its not please move to the correct location. Thanks.
So here goes, we are currently waiting for a new build house to be built, until its complete, we have decided to move out of our rented accommodation and move in with family to give us a chance to save a bit of money.
So we moved out yesterday and we had planned to contact Royal Mail and setup a Mail Redirection, as it would be easier to not have to change our addresses with everyone now, then 3 month down the line have to do it again when we move in our house and it wouldnt show up on a credit check that someone did on us.
But after sitting and thinking, its not that simple! I will have to contact our local council to inform them we no longer live at our rented flat and we will stop paying the council tax for it and inform them of our new address. But if I tell them, surely it will show up as a change of address wont it?
Is there a way around not changing our address now and again in the next 3 month?
Thanks
Adam

To use the royal mail re-direction service you should have started whilst still in old property as they send a letter out to that address to ensure you are who you say you are. It may still be possible but you need to ask at the post office.
Re-directions means all the mail from one address is sent to another address for a period of time, so enabling you to leave old address on all mail from banks, mobile phones, doctors, dentist, work, etc etc.
But you would need to also do all the normal things to do with leaving a property, ie pay all council tax, electric, gas, water and advise them you are no longer responsible and give a forwarding address for final bills.
I don't believe forwarding address are recorded as change of address but someone else will hopefully clarify that.0 -
You can do redirection after you move. The letter Royal Mail send to old address is just informing the people living there that mail for such and such will be redirected. It doesn't give your new address. They also send a letter to new address regarding this.
There was a search on credit file by Royal mail (or post office) when we set up redirection all three times (last 3 years or so). I can't remember if it is associated with new address, but I think it is only for the old address to confirm your identity.
You would still need to inform council (or keep paying council tax) and utilities.Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -
We have already informed our gas, water and electric providers and given final meter readings.
Well thankfully the new tenant is more than happy to contact us if there is any post for us, as we said we are in the middle of setting a redirection up and there may be some bits n bobs for the first week or so.
Ill ring the council now and inform them, ill just give them our new address as a forwarding address.
cheers for the help.0 -
are you staying locally?
you could organise a free call & collect at your local delivery office
if you have your redirection organised but not in effect yet you can get the mail held pending the redi0 -
Hmm never thought of that, might do that until we sort the redirection out, cheers.0
