Car Tax problem

We bought a car from carcraft on the pre-tense that said we would be saving in tax and that it was £35 for 6 months tax. It turns out that the tax for the car is £68.

I have put a complaint in with the company itself although not in writing. I have some finance on the car. We are happy with the payments but this has been mis sold to us. When confronted about it he offered me 1 6month difference between the 35 and 68 (£33). I found this insulting as he then said this was coming out of his own pocket and not carcraft. Therefore admitting they have done wrong.

I would be happy if they swapped the car for a car with less tax and keep the payments the same.

I am going to write to them to see if I get a response, at the momment I am still awaiting a call back from their general manager apparently the one that put the phone dwn on me.

Where should i go from here as a know they have broken the sale of goods act

Hope you can help

James

Do you have any proof that they told you the tax was only £35 for six months?

Surely the OP had ample opportunity to research the tax bands of cars that he/she was interested in buying.

    My old Dad always said to me;

Son you will know when a Car Salesman is lying ..... his mouth will be open...;)
  • 'Caveat Emptor' applies - surely you checked the cost of the road tax for the vehicle, and didn't just take the seller's word? Was there a tax disc on the car
when you inspected it? The actual cost of the tax disc is shown it.
"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"
  • Its a tiny minor error and certainly not one you can force them to change the contract on. You should have checked and tax bands are open to change anyway thus their terms will cover this.

I would suggest their offer is more than fair re refunding the difference this time.

I would be more concerned that your probably paying £12k over 20 years for a five year old basic corsa worth a grand. ;)

This is an obvious mistake, and they were good to reimburse you the £33!

You cannot get 6 months car tax for £35 for any ordinarily fuelled new car.

The cheapest 6 months tax is £66 (for petrol or diesel cars)!
