making a claim for income support...please help

hi i wondered if some one could help me, me and my partner have hit a real bad patch in our relationship and my feeling towards him have changed, if we were to split could i claim income support?
i have 2 boys aged 5 and 3 i dont have any money or savings but i will need to pay rent/ bills/ council tax etc.

if i were to make a claim for income support does anyone know how long it takes, i can make a claim online and it says they will phone me back within 48 hours. im just really confused as i have a credit card so would it be best to pay for everything on there until i recieve some money?

the main bills i am worried about is my rent and council tax as i really dont want to fall behind and start recieving letters from them

my house is housing association.

thanks for reading

  • I dont see why you wouldnt be able to claim (unless of course you are working)..

Your best bet is to call one of their advisors and explain your situation, or hopefully someone inthis forum will have some more experience with this.
  • I would call them and do your claim on the phone....I really wouldn't trust doing it on line.

You need to sort out tax credits yourself, you need to cancel your joint claim and start up a single one.
The info you will need is income details and house details. They do ask if your excpecting any money etc too. Iv been on it before but I cant remember all the details they ask you for sorry :( There will be someone else who will know!
You also have to sort out your housing benefit too

As Karen said you phone IS do claim over phone, then you will have to attend JCP for interview with lone parent advisor.

You need to phone tax credits close couple claim and start single claim for child tax credits.

You need to contact your local authority regarding council tax and local housing allowance.

Also can you and your ex agree on child support for the kids? If not you can make a claim via CSA.
