Confused about CC application

Hi just wondering if anyone can shed any light

I just completed an online application for the RBS 0% balance transfer card, I am an existing RBS customer with a graduate account, and want to transfer £1500 from my Virgin card as the existing 0% deal is ending.

I just did the online application, and it said it had been successful and gave me a credit limit of £5500, I filled in the details for the £1500 BT to Virgin. However, at the very end, it then said 'we cannot give you an answer at this time and we will be in touch'. So has it been successful or not??? Should I phone them?

Looks like its been referred to application verification unit - good luck! They usually do this and then it can refer at the end, i've had it loads of times - gold card with £3k limit, then a week later get rejection through the post! Its nothing new, RBS are a shower of sh$$e after all

Note for future reference: with most providers, you either complete the BT request section during the application process or wait until the card arrives and request your BT(s) when you call to activate. (There's usually a dedicated, Freefone number for this)

IMO, it's safer to wait until receipt of the card and credit limit before requesting BTs. That way you keep your options open, avoid unwanted partial transfers and retain some control over what happens when. Unfortunately, you're now stuck with RBS until the bank reaches a decision.

I would certainly call customer services. Fingers crossed you get a firm decision without further delay.

    Very best

  • Hmm well called them and they were not incredibly helpful - could only confirm that they'd received the application and would get back to me within a week. They refused to say what the further information they wanted to check was!

Thing is I just rang up after to cancel an old Halifax card that's been sitting empty for some time, and they offered me 0% BT!! only for 6 months but still it would have saved an application at the moment. Ah well at least I have something sorted if this fails.

I just think it's ridiculous that I would be refused; existing customer, professional with a £30k+ income, no dependents and very low outgoings. No wonder none of us have any loyalty any more.
  • Also - after they said it'd been accepted and given a credit limit, I 'signed' electronically a credit agreement form - it was only after that that the screen then said it needed to be checked. Is that usual? I'm sure I've only signed credit agreements after it's been accepted in the past, but I may be wrong, it's been a year or so since I've applied for anything.

Similar thing happened to me last week.

Gven I got a good internal score with RBS I thought I'd give it a shot and apply for one of their Classic Credit Cards and to my surprise I was accepted and given a £750 C/L. Just to verify it though, I thought i'd give CS a call and they confirmed the same thing.
However, yesterday when I received the Credit Agreement to sign, it said I had been accepted 'in principle' and that further checks would have to be done. So I thought I'd go into one of the branches to hand the agreement in rather than post it and again one of the RBS staff at the counter said 'I'll sent this off and you should receive your card in about two weeks'.

I don't get why the RBS Group do this, it's misleading, as I remember going through the same process when I recently applied for a current account but was luckly still successful.

Nonetheless, if I do get declined, I've always got good old NID to write me up a lil' appeal letter ;).

Mate you know this exact same thing happened to me - once you sign and return the forms (CCA) you'll find it will end up with AVU who manually assess it - so its still not guaranteed until you get the card! Even then, they sent my stuff for my bank account then a letter closing it all down again! That was when they were faster and it seems the account went through before AVU got their mucky mitts on it! Barstewards! lol

Have a look here for appeal letter: BEEN DECLINED - Appeal Letter Template

Another success only last week lol :T
