Jag - "Cruise Control Not Available" - HELP

Hi there.
This is a post on behalf of my father who has a Jag X-Type.. about 4 years old now but not many problems.
Today it suddenly came on with a warning light and says
"Cruise Control Not Available"
The gear box also made a few weird sounds.
On briefly googling the problem someone mentioned they had to take it to MANY dealers (paying each time) before the problem was resolved! My dad's unsure of whether this will just effect the cruise control or anything else.
If anyone has any recommendations or advice it would be much appreciated.

Might be worth posting on this site. You'll have to register, but it's free. Predominately US based, but there are Jag techs who visit the site that may be able to assist.I really must stop loafing and get back to work...0

My main worry would be the noises from the gearbox. Problems there [especially jaguar] are usually expensive. THe cruise control is not really
necessary.
Is there nothing in the back of the Jaguar handbook on fault finding?
If he or you are in the AA for example get them to look at it for you-even if it means driving the car away from your home for a few miles. Explain that the warning light has just come on and you're getting weird noises from the

People always recommend https://www.honestjohn.co.uk for help and advice as well.
If you find your exact model etc, you can find out all the known faults for the vehicle. This maybe something jaguar knows about and have recalled ...0
