Buying from Chin/Hong Kong is asking for trouble! They are the masters of fakery.

In your laptop information it will tell you to use a genuine Samsung charger.

At the very least, if you're going to buy a non-Samsung one, buy it from somewhere in the UK with a good reputation.

I made the same mistake several years ago for my Acer laptop, but luckily it was on the the charger that overheated and went pop; the laptop was fine!

I learnt my lesson never to buy from China again.

Other than leaving negative feedback, informing ebay, and perhaps trading standards, there's not much you can do.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Right, a long overdue update. Laptop's fixed and everything works fine. I asked for the full amount from the seller (£288.25 which covers repair + replacement parts costs). They said no, that's too much!

After a LOOOOOT of emails and even a long distance call to China, they agreed to give me £100.

    I said, £200.

    They said, no, £100.

    I said, £150.

    They said, no, £100.

So tomorrow, I'm going to say - fine, ya bast*rds, £100. Plus £8.25 to refund the bloody charger.

This has cost me a LOT of money, but I've learnt a major lesson, which I will make sure all my friends and family learn as well!

    ORIGINAL PARTS ONLY!!!!

To their credit, they've been very good at communicating, and have not left me high and dry, which they could easily have done, being based in China and all.

You could probably have gotten a new laptop for that, if you found the right place at the right time and haggled a bit ;) Maybe not new new, but a pretty good refurb.

I have a friend who works for Trading Standards.
From what he has told me and shown me I would advise everyone NOT to buy a charged of Ebay whether it is from a Chinese ebayer or not.
The site is full of counterfeits.
Many are being sold by UK sellers.
I know it costs more but visit a reputable seller. At least you wont be dicing with you life as some of the counterfeits are really dangerous.
Third time lucky on WW I hope :j

the only way to 1/2 protect yourself from dodgy chargers is if the charger plugs into the battery direct, i.e. not through the appliance. this way any incorrect power levels wont bust the equipment. not sure if you can get these for laptop batteries tho

  • A £3 multimeter can be a laptop saver ;) As long as the voltage and amps output and the polarity is right you should be fine. Oh and a fused plug of course.
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine. :p
