Anyone gone to drastic measures to pay off debt?

I was wondering whether anyone has considered (or used) drastic measures to make money to clear their debt. I don't mean not washing for a month or taking loo rolls from work, I mean verging on the unethical perhaps??

I don't feel ready to go into why I'm asking and don't worry I've not done anything illegal, but certain things have crossed my mind to get things sorted sooner rather than later.

I've edited this to say, that yes, I had a strange moment recently when some dodgy things went through my mind to clear my debt so it is gone, but that is as far as it went, I've not and wont do anything dodgy because it isn't worth it and I will just clear my debt the old fashioned way of saving money....

Did you see the Derren Brown programme 'the Heist' where he convinced three ordinary people to carry out a robbery? It made me think that we aren't all as civilised as we would like to think we are, and maybe it would be easier to persuade us into committing a crime than we might like to think.

I've sold my car and not replaced it. Some people might consider that to be drastic.
  • depends how you perceive drastic i suppose ?

I shaved my head as haircuts were costing me £30 per month. thats £360 a year saved :o

Ive also cut down to going out once a week spending £30, rather than four nights a week spending £30 - £100 a time

i think she means drastic as in theft, escorting, drugs etc - but I guess you all knew that and are trying to steer clear og the subject. Mt bet is that everyone has had a fleeting thought of doing something unethical/illegal at one point in order to get rid of debt fast, but the majority don't actually cross that line and do anything - and its that line separates the goodies from the baddies!!

Don't wish to go into details but yes! But until i had my lightbulb moment it didn't do any good. just paid off debts and got into more debt!

Until you have your lightbulb moment don't do anything illegal - its not worth it. And then when you have your lightbulb moment you realise you don't have to do anything illegal.

Am I making sense!!! Whatever it is don't do it. (Are we going to see you in the News of the World- as a good DFW I don't buy sunday papers anymore. Too busy on here.

Me too and I still feel sad. Haven't got much else to sell though, I don't think anyone would want to buy me (or my cat!)

Don't know if this counts but a few years ago we used to hide from the coalman as we couldn't afford to pay him. We used to burn wood, clothes, furniture anything to keep the house warm we were in a real mess. I used to sneak food from my parents house when I was too proud to ask for it, they knew just turned a blind eye and now they send food parcels just incase we need it. I love my parents:D
