Unfussy child will not eat breakfast

Don't nag him, leave him to it, if he doesn't eat, oh well. He just doesn't sound like he's a 'breakfast' person! My OH can't eat until he's been up for at least 1 hour. He won't starve.0

ooh this brought back memories! I am not a 'breakfast' person never have been. but my mum was strong believer in breakfast and i can remember first - being forced to eat weetabix.....I threw up......next it was toast....I hid it under sofa cushions.........then....arghhhh mum gave up on solids and forced drinking chocolate on me (on grounds it was made with milk) which made me throw up!!! I still cannot eat solids until I have been up at least a couple of hours. then i get quite hungry and will happily eat bacon sarnies or bowl of cereal. could be yours is like me. would suggest supplying a banana or cereal bar for break or when he feels hungry.0

the_cat - I have a smoothie maker so on a few occasions I have let him cut up fruit and put in and he still wont drink what he makes.
Dh worked from home so had the younger 2 today whilst I picked ds up from school and we talked about breakfast and he has said he will eat his breakfast after getting changed and finish off anything he doesnt eat on the way to school.
Fingers crossed it works but if not I will not stress about it, I will let him make his own choices and if he is hungry he will learn (I hope)!!!!
Thanks again everyone for all the helpful advice.0 -
I'm also in the "can't do breakfast early" camp. I love breakfast but only once I've been up for an hour or so. Pack him up something to take with him for when he feels like eating it.
As for the whining on the walk to school though - tell him the deal is that you won't nag him to eat before you leave but he must not moan on the walk to school!Piglet

You are right. I should just tell him that. And I will if eating on the way to school doesnt work I will do. I do think its just for attention but I should have told him that when he first started skipping breakfast.
Tandraig - We have to pay for breakfast club at school but we cant afford it and I would have to get up earlier to get him in for that then be hanging around as no breakfast club for dd and she is at the same school (20 - 30mins walk depending on which entrance is open and which kids I have with me)0 -
If we're running late, I give me toddler some dry cereal in a beaker that she eats in the car / buggy, plus a lidded beaker of milk. I figure it all ends up in the same place whether she eats it together out of a bowl or seperately !0

I agree with this, not sure why we have specific "breakfast" food. My son's best mate hated breakfasty type things, but was very hungry in the mornings. His mum used to serve him leftovers from the night before, spag bol for brekkie etc.
I have to admit although sometimes I fancy cereal or porridge alot of days I don't fancy a milky breakfast and would (and do) have leftovers for breakfast.
My kids just inhale food so not a problem they have really, but occasionally if they are a bit tired (say a bad nights sleep the night before) they may not fancy breakfast, but will eat a snack on the way to school, or I give them money for a mid morning snack at school.
At DD1's school can buy toast at break and DS can get anything up to a full brekkie (he is at high school). Mind you this morning they both had cereal and wanted money for toast and a bacon butty for DS.
I sometimes do brekkie muffins which do well as snacks for the walk to school and kids like them because they are sweet. Fruit is good as well.
At DD1's school they get free fruit as a snack during the day as well, so over the day they don't go short.
Perhaps OP's little one is not a brekkie person.

My dd2 (6) used to have a creamed cracker, munch bunch from frais and 3 grapes. She has just gone onto a ramekin of coco snaps. Think there may be some novelty factor there but at least she eats it.:cool:0

Hi All
Just thought I would update.
Day 1 - All 3 got up and got dressed (screams from ds2 as he wanted breakfast), then they all had crumpets with milk to drink. They all ate it before leaving house and we left early and got to school early - unheard of!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Got the rest of the crumpets tomorrow and friday they are having toast so if not eaten can be eaten on the way. Will try and make the breakfast muffins at weekend for next week.
Thanks again everyone. Cant believe this morning went so well all the breakfast was finished before leaving the house expecially as ds usually wont eat crumpets (he was given choice of crumpet or toast).
Thanks again.
