Which of these laptops should I buy?

Hi. I've been researching into laptops to buy for University and as I am really rather clueless concerning anything to with electronics, I could really use some help! I will mainly be using it for work, music (at the same time), and watching dvds and bbc iplayer. My budget is £500.
I was thinking of getting the HP Compaq 610, but as there aren't many reviews of it online I'm not really sure whether it's good or bad..
There are two deals online for this laptop, one on ebuyer and the other on the HP website:
http:// www. ebuyer. com/product/166925/show_product_overview
for £426.82 (160GB HDD, 2GB RAM)
or
http:// h10010. www1 .hp. com/wwpc/uk/en/sm/WF06b/321957-321957-64295-3955548-3955548-3958407-3958458.html
for £469.20 (320GB HDD, 3GB RAM)
(sorry!! I can't post with links yet, so I added some random spaces into it..)
If I were to get this laptop, I'm assuming it's worth spending the extra 40 odd pounds to get the second one with the better spec?
Also, I know this is really basic question but does the laptop deal from the HP website automatically include 1 year manufacturer warranty? Because I can't find any mention of it on the site, whereas the ebuyer deal states that it does.
I would really appreciate any help regarding this and I'm open to any suggestions of other laptops that you think would suit my needs! Although, probably not Acer since I'm likely to be in need of good customer support..
Thank you!!

If you want good customer support, Apple are the best in the business.
An Apple MacBook would cost you just over £600 with your student discount, though you would get a 3 year warranty.
I don't know if spending a bit more is possible, but there it is.0 -
which Macbook would that be?
Do students get discount and other offers?
3 years warranty is good.
I have a cousin who's in Uni and would be interested if they can order and I pay ;-)0 -
I did think of getting an apple macbook, but even with the 14% student discount, that's still around ~£650. I'm not sure if I can afford to spend that much. Thanks anyway!
^I'm pretty sure you can get the student discount on any of their macbooks..0
