PPI letter- please help!!

Hi everyone, this is my first post on here, just wondering if anyone can offer a bit of advice. I had a loan with the Royal Bank of Scotland and was not told that the PPI was optional, I didnt even know I was paying it!
Anyway, I followed the template letter on this site and wrote to them. I received a letter back basically saying that I do not have a case. From what I have read on hear, Martin's advice is to not give up and I do not intend to. However, in the letter RBS said they were willing to give me £750 as 'a gesture of good will'. Whilst I appreciate that this is a lot of money, the amount of the PPI to date is somewhere in the region of £1200 plus interest. Martin also says that you can write back and make them a sort of 'counter-offer'. But I am unsure of what exactly to say in the letter- any ideas please? Also, what sort of response should I expect from this?
Thanks in advance xx

  • I take it this is their final response and they have given you the details of the financial ombudsman if you aren't happy? I wouldn't bother arguing with them I would just go to the FOS.
  • Hi, thanks for replying. Yes they have given the FOS details

    Hi and welcome.;)

If they mention the FOS on the letter, this means you can move on to them now if you want to.
Some will confirm its the final decision and enclose the FOS details and some will also give you the opportunity to write back to them again.

You do have a choice if this was not the final response, even if they did say you can still continue with the FOS.

If your not happy with the offer, you could write back and tell them your not satisfied as you believe you were mis sold, due to the reasons already given, and you were out of pocket due to this, where you believe you should be entitled to all the PPI you have paid and the interest.

Give them your own timescale to consider this, say for example 14 days.

If you hear nothing, then move on to the FOS, unless of course you decide to take them up on the offer.

    Good luck.;)
