Thanks everyone. I'm off to look for house insurance now! Any recommendations? :)

I've been with Liverpool Victoria for years - they are consistently cheaper than any other quotes (I always check at renewal time)
  • If you are not going to be living in the property, you'll need to get unoccupied property insurance, which is difficult to come by and quite a bit more expensive. Property is considered unoccupied if no one is living in it for more than 30 days. You could of course get normal buildings insurance and just spend one night a month in your house, but should you have to claim, the insurance company might refuse to pay out.

try the comparison websites for quotes, its a good way to see what kind of price you're likely to pay. I did this and then managed to find a cheaper quote locally and went with it.

Its always better to get loads of comparison quotes first :-)

  • Quoted around £140 for the year - buildings only.
