Co-op bank to stop taking cash payments at its branches

in Credit cards
I have a Co-op Bank Clear Card which I've had for years. They've recently stopped issuing credit card cheques which is annoying as I found them a useful feature, especially as they charged them at the same rate as purchases, and no 'cash advance' fee.
Today's statement insert states that they won't honour the cheques issued after 31/10, fair enough, but on the back:
"From 1st November 2009 we will no longer be accepting cash deposits, or debit card payments in our Branch network as a payment for Credit Cards. This includes all cards issued by the Co-operative Bank on behalf of our partners. All other payment methods currently available will continue to be accepted."
I'm sure I read somewhere that legal tender (notes and coins in certain combinations) cannot be refused in payment of a debt (which a credit card balance would be).
Any thoughts?
