you also claim to have "always" been an access student.
how can you "always" be an access student.
you either do the course and complete it or you don't? i was also told that it was either a one year full-time or a two year part-time, is this also incorrect?0 -

as you claim to deal with people looking for support and advice i feel your communication skills are somewhat to be desired.
i don't know why on earth some people, such as yourself, have to be so rude and angry.
I don't know what posts you've been reading, but it certainly hasn't been mine!
I replied to your statement by saying,
"Do you have a reference for this change of name? It seems to me to be unlikely as a Dip HE has always been equivalent to the first two years of a degree and an Access course isn't even an HE qualification."
How can you see this as being either rude, angry or poor communication?0 -
Thank you for all your info, I was confused in the first place lol but even more so now, when I get our house sorted hopefully I will find my old grades and stuff then I can plan my next move. As for this whole access business I havent a clue about it. I most probably will have to make my grades up before hand but the way I see it is I have plenty of time ahead of me yet.
But I am dead set on doing midwifery. will keep you posted.

As it's not generally shift work the hours are more friendly if you have children, and it can be just as rewarding as midwifery in its own way. The health visitors I work with are wonderful, dedicated people.

If you consider that as a career you can consider both nursing or midwifery as a pathway
Thank you for this, but to be really honest with you (i'm sure i'm not the only one) but I dont see the point in healt visitors I did have a lovely one with my 1st son but my second son I had a witch of one who really put me off them for life not very helpful and stuck up. thank you but i do have my heart set on getting stuck in there and delivering babies.

Hi
I'm a midwifery student and I'm 39 (still clinging on to my 30s) I would say 80% of my cohort are mature students so you really don't need to worry about age. I'm not the oldest on the course either.
It's a tough course. The shifts on placement are 12.5 hours so you need to have your childcare sorted for out of school hours. I have a full time nanny because my youngest is just 10 months old. There is a means tested bursary though and if you are eligable there is a childcare allowance too so you are helped financially.
I would honestly suggest you do an access to midwifery course first. I didn't do one because I already had a degree, but, I feel as if the girls who did do the access course have a headstart. Not only do they know some of the anatomy and physiology stuff we need to learn but they generally have an education head on. I was last in Uni quite a few years ago and I struggled a bit to remember how to learn (if that makes sense).
It's a great course though, I love it. It's frustrating and exhausting at times but the rewards outweigh all of that 1000 times over.:A
