Can't receive emails from Outlook Express

After getting rid of viruses, I can no longer receive in coming emails.
The message I usually get is
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'pop.tiscali.co.uk ', Server: 'pop.tiscali.co.uk', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F
Any idea how to cure this problem, PLEASE?
Also when I run a virus check, it seems to multiply the viruses that are in the vault as copies!! How do I get rid of these?
Any answers in idiot proof style would be much appreciated!
